Harrison County Humane Society accepts animals from residents of Harrison County. The first step in surrender is to call (712) 644-3003 to inquire about our availability of space. We do not euthanize for space, so if we are full, you will be put on our waiting list. Once space is available, you will be instructed to bring in your animal, you must bring them to our building at 106 N 5th Ave, Logan, IA with proof of residence and ownership, bring all documentation of veterinary care including vaccination records, and complete the surrender. A $25 surrender fee for altered pets will help pay for vet bills and vaccinations for your pet; if your pet is unaltered, it is recommended that you donate additional funds to help pay for the spay or neuter surgery.

Lost and Found pets are typically posted on the Harrison County Humane Society of Iowa Facebook page. Spaying and neutering are essential in keeping your pet happy, healthy, and safe. There are so many stray, unwanted, and adoptable pets out there available at many shelters and rescues across the country — there is no need for your dog or cat to have a litter. Spaying and neutering is also necessary to help prevent various cancers and other health problems in your pet. For a long, healthy life, please spay or neuter your pet!

These surgeries are performed by veterinarians in the county and at other facilities. The costs vary per location. Many local veterinarians will spay or neuter at approximately 4 – 6 months of age. Harrison County Humane Society offers low cost spay and neuter clinics each month (alternating monthly between dogs and cats). Sign up for the clinics can be done on Saturdays at our central location. 106 N 5th Ave, Logan. Watch our Facebook page for available sign ups.

A microchip is a small device, about the size of a grain of rice, that is implanted via sanitary pre-loaded needle under the skin of your pet at the nape of the neck. The microchip can be scanned by any veterinarian or shelter if your animal makes its way to a facility. At that point, the person who has scanned your pet will call the provider of your microchip to have you contacted to let you know your pet has been located.

Most veterinarians microchip dogs and cats. The Harrison County Humane Society of Iowa can microchip and register your pet for the nominal fee of $25. Please contact HCHS for more information.

HCHS brings in over 250 animals or more each year. Some of those animals are strays, others are owner surrenders. We also do TNR (Trap, Neuter, and Release) programs where we bring in feral cats for altering, vaccinations, and return to the community to continue their job, but as healthy, non-reproducing cats.

HCHS is funded by individual and corporate donations, as well as through our yearly fundraisers. If you would like to donate to HCHS, you may mail your donation to: HCHS, P.O. Box 174, 106 N 5th Ave Logan, IA 51546 or select the donate button at the top or button of the page.
